Shot-To-Panel Comparison of the Watchmen Trailer vs. the Graphic Novel
![]()
[‘Watchmen’ Trailer to Comic Comparison | Features | RopeofSilicon.com Entertainment News]
Very good deconstruction of the cinematic takes on the various scenes shown in the trailer. I like what I see so far.
Starting not to love it so much
I really love my job. But apparently, my bank account doesn’t.
They say, “Do what you love, and the money will follow.” And maybe it will. But not in any way I can foresee at this job, with this company. I can’t see any reason why they’d give me a raise (as opposed to finding someone younger/cheaper), and my ability to supplement my income on the side is extremely limited by restrictions imposed by my employer.
Today I’m pulling even more out of ‘retirement’ funds to cover unexpected expenses. That makes 5 times in less than a year.
I love what I do, and I love the company I do it for, but it appears we are financially incompatible.
So, it’s time to start laying groundwork for something bigger.
New Project!
I wanted to start working with Emily to help develop her artistic talents. Today, she looked at the dragon puppets and a couple of other things I had made way back in another life, and she said, “Daddy, it makes me sad that you don’t make stuff like this anymore.”
That was all it took to get me started again. Angela went and picked up a bunch of art/craft supplies (based on what she saw was in the puppets) and by this evening, Emily and I were sketching out a new cheetah puppet design.
A couple hours later, this is what we’ve got. She’ll paint it tomorrow while I’m at work, and we’ll work on getting it finished this week.
Despite the chaos of the broken van window in the midst of it all, it was still a pretty great day reconnecting with my creative self.
Perfect.
A guy stopped by earlier today offering to cut our lawn, and I agreed. He came back a bit later, did a great job, and as he was almost done (edging around the sidewalk), some debris shot from his edger and took out the back side window in our minivan.
So, that was fun to mop up tonight. And the bill couldn’t come at a much more inconvenient time.
Oh well…that which doesn’t kill us… meh, you know the rest. ;^)
Dragon puppets
I made these (partial) puppets about 12 years ago or so, but I stopped once I realized I had no idea how to proceed beyond the head.
They’ve been knocking around the house ever since, and occasionally the kids will bring ‘em out and ask about ‘em again.
Hand-bent copper (electrical) wire framework covered with newspaper, with Crayola Model Magic craft foam/clay for the finish. Painted with acrylic paints (well, at least the one on the left was). The time/durability testing shows that Model Magic probably wasn’t the best choice, given all the nicks and cracks and chunks missing.
Whoah. Awesome tip!
(It goes straight to your camera roll, so you can sync it to iPhoto if you want).

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog: Act Two
Entertaining and inspiring.
I can’t wait to see Act III tomorrow.
Watchmen trailer is up

Great weekend for comic book movie fans. The Dark Knight is opening to universally awesome reviews, and the first official trailer for Watchmen is now up.
Watchmen looks even more incredible than I had imagined. They absolutely NAILED the Doc Manhattan appearance (the glowing blue guy). Now my only hope is that the actual movie is as good as it looks.
I’d be a fool to think that it will live up to the graphic novel, but if it can come even close, that in itself will be an achievement.
I Knew I Shoulda Had A Burrito
Sitting here having lunch at the food court prior to coming in to work. In the 2 years I’ve worked here, this is the first (and last) time I’ve eaten at Lotus Express. My taste buds are wondering what they did to deserve this horrible, dry, tasteless ‘food’. And to think, I drove straight past Chipotle, but decided against waiting in line (their online ordering doesn’t work on the iPhone).Posted with LifeCast
Sometimes, you just need to feed your spirit with something — anything — that’s uplifting and energizing.
This video brings your soul a heaping buffet of FeelGood.
What a wonderful thing to share with the world.
